HMV makes sound investment in kiosk technology
HMV, the UK and Ireland's leading specialist retailer of music, DVD/video, computer
games and related products, has introduced self-service kiosks into its stores to
improve the overall customer experience in a deal with YESpay, a global payments
services company, and its partner Neo Products UK Ltd, a specialist in touchscreen
kiosks.
Customers will be able to use the kiosks to locate stock, view sample clips as well
as ordering content for home delivery. They can also download MP3 tracks for immediate
take away on a media or a storage device.
Following a successful trial, the retailer is planning transactional kiosks throughout
its entire store network. YESpay's EMBOSS Chip & PIN payment service integrates
with the self-service kiosks, enabling faster, easier and more secure payments.
Dave Elston, Ecommerce Manager at HMV, said, "The technology accepts all UK credit
and debit cards, allowing prompt payment and delivery of goods securely. With customer
demands increasing and people wanting to buy music in new ways it's important to
ensure that with new shopping methods, payments are met securely."
Dave Elston continued, "This technology will allow us to offer customers a means
of ordering and paying for products that were either not available in store or by
offering easy payment for audio downloads. Eventually the aim is to roll-out further
to all stores, gradually increasing the quantity of kiosks in any given store. We
saw over 27,000 product searches conducted over the Christmas period, which we believe
have contributed towards physical product sales in stores."

kiosks present an opportunity for retailers to engage with potential and existing
customers differently in a way that can ultimately improve a retailer's long term
performance."

Hooty's secures its card-payments with YESpay
Hooty's Supplies, a leading home superstore providing everything from household
and garden items, DIY, electrical, food and drink and even pet supplies, has adopted
YESpay's pre-accredited and PCI DSS approved EMBOSS Payment Processing Service integrated
with LDS Business Systems Ltd's in-store point of sale system.
Hooty's, who was previously using bank owned terminals, was facing issues related
to double keying errors. In addition, they were losing potential sales due to queuing
times and service issues from the bank. LDS Business Systems, pre-integrated with
YESpay's EMBOSS solution, worked on tight schedules rolling out the solution across
Hooty's in less than 4 weeks.
Paul Brearley, Financial Controller at Hooty's comments, "We were concerned with
the speed and miskeying of transactions using standalone terminals plus we had no
way of tracking payments with our existing technology. LDS's EPOS solution pre-integrated
with YESpay's payment facility fitted our requirements perfectly. Now, we are not
losing money resulting from wrong values being charged and we not only have a record
of transactions from each of our tills but this service gives customers a 90% faster
payment option."

Empire Cinemas, a cinema group operating 144 screens across 17 cinemas in the UK,
using YESpay's EMBOSS payment gateway, the leading card payment services company,
has been shortlisted for the 'Card Payment Solution of the Year' award at the Retail
Systems Award, 2009. YESpay EMBOSS payment gateway, pre-accreditted and PCI DSS
Level 1 approved, has been recognised for the way it has empowered Empire Cinemas
to provide the excellent service expected of the theater chain.
The cinema group, made up of Odeon and UCI cinemas, wanted a solution that enabled
customers to collect their tickets via a kiosk. The technology varied throughout
the group and Empire Cinemas made the decision to amalgamate all of its technology
to streamline its services, saving time and money. Following a successful trial,
the kiosks, powered by YESpay's EMBOSS payment gateway were launched across 17 locations.
Today, Empire Cinemas boasts of improved customer service, increasing efficiency
and reducing queues, using a guaranteed secure method of payment.
The award, 'Card Payment Solution of the Year', is given to a retailer who has excelled
in the field of cards and payments. The award stresses on the expertise of the payment
solution and how it has improved the overall operations of the organisation and
